Market Update

At the time of writing, the Bitcoin price is sitting at $17,228, representing a gain of 3.5% in the last 24 hours. More than $2.3B worth of BTC were exchanged in the BTC/USD market, representing a 39% share of daily volume. The BTC/JPY volume represents a 37% share.

The Ethereum price has dropped by 8.5% over the past 24 hours, and is currently sitting on $665, with over $800M worth of Ether exchanged in the past 24 hours on the ETH/USD pair which has a 33% market share of the daily trading volume.

The Ripple price has risen 45.9% over the last 24 hours and is currently sitting at $0.77. More than $920M worth of XRP were exchanged in the XRP/USD market, which has a 30% share of daily volume.

Blockchain.info Launches Bitcoin Cash Support

In a blog post today, Blockchain confirmed that Bitcoin Cash had become one of its wallet’s main currencies alongside Bitcoin (BTC) and Ethereum (ETH). The post reads:

“In November, we revealed our plan to deliver on the growing demand we’ve seen for Bitcoin Cash. Starting today, we’re supporting Bitcoin Cash with full functionality through the same web wallet”

United Bitcoin: A New Bitcoin Fork

A new Bitcoin fork called United Bitcoin has been announced. The development team aims to improve the mechanics of the original Bitcoin software. United Bitcoin was forked on December 12, 2017, at block height 498777 and the creators claim it will feature an 8MB block size, Lightning Network support, Segregated Witness, and the ability to process smart contracts. The United Bitcoin whitepaper reads:

“United Bitcoin will use the pressure-tested mechanics of Bitcoin, such as PoW, block times, supply cap, and issuance model, while it upgrades areas to accommodate larger social demands. These improvements will be an increase in block size to 8MB, the addition of smart contract support based on UVM, the addition of Lightning Network support, and SegWit implementation."

German Stock Exchange Mulls Adding Bitcoin Futures

According to German business outlet Wirtschaftswoche, Deutsche Boerse executives are holding discussions about whether to list Bitcoin futures on Eurex, which is Europe’s largest futures and options market. A spokeswoman for the exchange said:

“We are thinking about futures, with which private investors and institutional investors can protect existing investments in Bitcoin or set for falling prices of the cyber currency."

Litecoin is down 9.17% against the dollar for the day at $275.44 and down 11.69% to Ƀ0.01586 on volumes of Ƀ42.0k.

Dash is down 7.75% at Ƀ0.05213 with Ƀ7.5k volume and down 3.38% against the dollar at $897.4.

Iota is down 5.97% to Ƀ0.0002331 on Ƀ12.0k volume.

Ether Classic is down 8.59% to Ƀ0.001723 with volumes of Ƀ9.1k and down 4.72% against the dollar at $29.7.

Monero is down 3.26% against the dollar at $304.45 and down 8.73% against Bitcoin at Ƀ0.01766 on volumes of Ƀ7.3k.
