Market Update

At the time of writing, the Bitcoin price is sitting at $8,113 representing a gain of 0.14% in the last 24 hours. More than $700 M worth of BTC were exchanged in the BTC/USD market representing a 20% share of the global daily volume. The BTC/JPY pair represents a 56.5% share.

The Ethereum price has risen 0.22% over the past 24 hours and is currently sitting at $512, with over $250 M worth of Ether exchanged in the past 24 hours on the ETH/USD pair which has a 36.1% market share of the daily trading volume.

18 Million XVG Moved From Verge’s Crowdfund Wallet

Recently, about 18.6 million XVG ($1.6 million) have been moved from the cryptocurrency’s “partnership crowdfund' wallet. While some claim the funds were sent to cryptocurrency exchange Binance, others claim they were sent to a future partner’s wallet. Verge’s lead developer claimed the funds were sent to “pay for the ledger,” although Ledger’s CTO claims to have no knowledge of it. According to Ledger's CTO, no one in the company is working on integrating XVG neither exists any partnership between Verge and the company. A Ledger's CTO twitter post reads:

"Except there is no partnership nor planned integration with us."

Mastercard Eyes Blockchain for Fighting Fake Identities

Last Thursday, in an application released by the U.S Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), Mastercard showed its interest in using the blockchain as a way to safeguard identity data. The company described a system in which a semi-private or private blockchain would be used to receive and store identity data. The data could include a "name, street address, tax identification number" and more. The company said:

"The use of a blockchain for the storage of identity and credential data may provide for an immutable storage of such data that can provide an accurate verification thereof and also prevent the fabrication of such data."

Latvia May Apply 20% Tax On Cryptocurrency Transactions

The director of the country's Finance Ministry's Department of Direct Taxes, Astra Kalane, revealed on public radio that "cryptocurrency transactions are very similar to capital gains." Based on that premise, Latvia plans to apply a 20% capital gains tax on cryptocurrency transactions. Chinese news outlet Xinhua wrote:

"A possible regulation for crypto currencies was also discussed in the Latvian parliament on Wednesday, as representatives of the national financial regulator, the Financial and Capital Market Commission (FCMC), reported to the parliament budget and finance (taxation) committee on the situation with crypto currencies in Latvia.”
