Market Update

At the time of writing, the Bitcoin price is sitting at $6,327 representing a loss of 2.94% in the last 24 hours. More than $630 M worth of BTC were exchanged in the BTC/USD market representing a 25% share of the global daily volume. The BTC/JPY pair represents a 12% share.

The Ethereum price has dropped 2.39% over the past 24 hours and is currently sitting at $360, with over $220 M worth of Ether exchanged in the past 24 hours on the ETH/USD pair which has a 21% market share of the daily trading volume.

Crypto Exchange Bittrex will Launch USD Markets for XRP and ETC

Yesterday, U.S. based cryptocurrency exchange Bittrex, announced that on the 20th of August it will launch US dollar (USD) markets for Ethereum Classic (ETC) and XRP, using a phased approach for USD trading. On the official announcement, the company stated:

"Implementing a phased rollout to help establish quality control for the new markets and ensure customers have the highest level of service possible."

Opera to Add Built-in Cryptocurrency Wallet to Its Desktop Browser

Opera Ltd, the Norway-based company behind the popular Opera browser, is going to add its built-in cryptocurrency wallet to its desktop browser. The company mentioned that this decision was taken in response to an “overwhelmingly positive response” from the cryptocurrency community and users of its Opera for Android browser, in which a built-in crypto wallet was introduced earlier this year with support for Ethereum (ETH) and decentralized apps (DApps). Charles Hamel, product lead of Opera Crypto, stated:

"By adding a crypto wallet directly into the browser, we removed the need for complex extensions or separate apps. Opening up the PC browser to crypto marks Opera’s second step towards making cryptocurrencies and Web 3.0 mainstream."

Ukraine Election Body Uses NEM Blockchain in Voting Trial

Ukraine's Election body has recently used NEM's blockchain in a voting trial. A member of Ukraine’s Central Election Commission, Oleksandr Stelmakh, has recently commented on Facebook regarding a voting trial conducted using NEM’s blockchain, which lets users create their own assets, he noted, allowing the tests to be conducted. According to Stelmakh’s post, blockchain’s advantages of allowing decentralized data storage and immutability can help in an electoral voting process.
