Market Update

At the time of writing, the Bitcoin price is sitting at $3,300 representing a gain of 0.9% in the last 24 hours. More than $150M worth of BTC were exchanged in the BTC/USD market representing a 13.5% share of the global daily volume. The BTC/JPY pair represents a 3% share.

The Ethereum price has dropped by 0.2% over the past 24 hours and is currently sitting at $87, with over $57B worth of Ether exchanged in the past 24 hours on the ETH/USD pair which has a 13.7% market share of the daily trading volume.

Facebook is Secretly Working on Blockchain Projects

Yesterday, it was reported that Facebook has formed a small blockchain technology research group which aims to disrupt the world’s traditional payments industry. A spokesperson from the company said: 

"Like many other companies Facebook is exploring ways to leverage the power of blockchain technology. This new small team is exploring many different applications. We don’t have anything further to share."

Hong Kong Exchange Hesitant to Approve Bitmain IPO

Today, a credible source stated that the Hong Kong Stock Exchange (HKEX) is reluctant in approving the Initial Public Offering (IPO) applications of Bitmain. The source added:

“The exchange is very hesitant to actually approve these bitcoin mining companies because the industry is so volatile. There’s a real risk that they could just not exist anymore in a year or two, (...) The HKEX doesn’t want to be the first exchange in the world to approve this and have one die on them.”

Romania Bitcoin Exchange CoinFlux Halts Activities after CEO’s Arrest

Yesterday, Romanian Bitcoin exchange CoinFlux has halted all activities after the CEO, Vlad Nistor, was arrested on suspicion of money laundering and other crimes. The exchanged announced on a blog post:

“Another unpleasant consequence of the investigation is the fact that our access to some parts of our platform has been restricted, thus we are unable to send this announcement through the usual communication channels: e-mail and website. Our expectation is that we will gain control back, within the next days.”
