Market Update

At the time of writing, the Bitcoin price is sitting at $6,667, representing a loss of 7.68% in the last 24 hours. More than $750 M worth of BTC were exchanged in the BTC/USD market representing a 19.9% share of the global daily volume. The BTC/JPY pair represents a 57.7% share.

The Ethereum price has dropped 7.38% over the past 24 hours and is currently sitting at $520, with over $300 M worth of Ether exchanged in the past 24 hours on the ETH/USD pair which has a 31.9% market share of the daily trading volume.

South Korean Exchange Coinrail Gets Hacked

South Korean Exchange Coinrail has recently revealed a "cyber intrusion" on its platform and is now reviewing its system. However, what happened to the exchange remains unclear. According to the company's statement, a few cryptocurrencies were affected, including Pundi X, NPER, and Aston. The remaining reserves, said to be 70% of total funds, are reportedly safe in cold storage as stated by the company:

"Two-thirds of the coins confirmed to have been leaked are covered by freezing / recalling through consultation with each coach and related exchanges. The remaining one-third of coins are being investigated with investigators, relevant exchanges and coin developers”

CFTC Suspects Bitcoin Futures Price Manipulation

According to anonymous sources cited by The Wall Street Journal, the United States Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) is coordinating with the U.S. Justice Department in conducting investigations into price manipulation in the Bitcoin futures. The criminal probe was launched after several cryptocurrency exchanges rejected a request from the Chicago Mercantile Exchange, the financial company that sells futures contracts based on Bitcoin, to share trading data. The exchanges are Bitstamp, Coinbase, Itbit, and Kraken.

EOS Mainnet Goes Live After Launch Group Gives Green Light

Last Saturday, the EOS Mainnet Launch Group (EMLG) members unanimously decided to go ahead with the launch of the EOS blockchain. According to an official report, the process began on the 9th of June and is scheduled to be completed tomorrow. The next steps are as follows: meshing with the seed nodes, determine how the validation process on the EOS network will be performed and voting to designate the first 21 block producers, in which 150 million tokens have to be spent. Once all the aforementioned steps are completed, the chain will be officially designated as the EOS mainnet.
