Market Update

At the time of writing, the Bitcoin price is sitting at $6,822 representing a gain of 0.27% in the last 24 hours. More than $350 M worth of BTC were exchanged in the BTC/USD market representing a 13.6% share of the global daily volume. The BTC/JPY pair represents a 61% share.

The Ethereum price has dropped 0.94% over the past 24 hours and is currently sitting at $527, with over $200 M worth of Ether exchanged in the past 24 hours on the ETH/USD pair which has a 26% market share of the daily trading volume.

Wells Fargo Bank Bans Credit Card Purchases of Cryptocurrencies

Yesterday, U.S. bank Wells Fargo announced that it is no longer allowing personal/business credit card purchases of any cryptocurrency. The bank explained that this decision was made due to the risks related to the cryptocurrencies volatility. A spokesperson for the bank said:

"Customers can no longer use their Wells Fargo credit cards to purchase cryptocurrency... We’re doing this in order to be consistent across the Wells Fargo enterprise due to the multiple risks associated with this volatile investment. This decision is in line with the overall industry... We will continue to evaluate the issue as the market evolves."

Crypto Exchange Binance to Offer Fiat-Crypto Trading

Yesterday, cryptocurrency exchange Binance announced its plans to allow fiat-crypto trading during this year. According to Bloomberg, the company will soon allow customers to convert cryptocurrencies into Euro through a separate local exchange based in Malta, more fiat currencies are planned to be added later on.

Lithuania Publishes ICO Guidelines

Recently, the Ministry of Finance of the Republic of Lithuania release guidelines for ICOs in the country, defining the various scenarios where ICOs and token projects would fall under either securities or currency regulations. Lithuania aims to be positioned as a major player in Europe for embracing blockchain startups and businesses. The Minister of Finance, Vilius Šapoka, stated:

"We can not ignore the development of new financial instruments and phenomenon of blockchain technology. We do believe that certain usage of it, such us ICOs, should be regulated[…] We acknowledge that the brave new crypto economy world is here to stay, this is why we encourage and invite its participants to innovate and create in Lithuania."
