Market Update

At the time of writing, the Bitcoin price is sitting at $5,909 representing a loss of 3.53% in the last 24 hours. More than $400 M worth of BTC were exchanged in the BTC/USD market representing a 15.8% share of the global daily volume. The BTC/JPY pair represents a 59.6% share.

The Ethereum price has dropped 4.4% over the past 24 hours and is currently sitting at $416, with over $150 M worth of Ether exchanged in the past 24 hours on the ETH/USD pair which has a 23.5% market share of the daily trading volume.

Bithumb Has Recovered Nearly Half of Funds Stolen in Last Week’s Hack

Yesterday, cryptocurrency exchange Bithumb claimed it has recovered nearly half of the funds stolen last week. As reported, the hackers breached Bithumb's hot wallets on the 20th of June making off with approximately $31 million, of which more than 45% were already recovered, reducing the value of the still-missing funds to just under 19 billion KRW (~$17 million) as of June 27. The company stated:

"The main reason for the reduction of the damage is due to the ongoing participation, support and cooperation of cryptocurrency exchanges and cryptocurrencies foundations [sic] across the world,” Bithumb said in the announcement. “Also our quick response to the cyber-attack by removing cryptocurrencies from hot wallet to cold wallet effectively contributed to reducing the overall damage.”

Coinbase to Finally Support GBP Deposits and Withdrawals

Cryptocurrency exchange Coinbase is reportedly going to add support for GBP. According to the company, it is going to roll out support for GBP wire transfers in the next few weeks to facilitate the company's UK customers to deposit and withdraw funds. Coinbase CEO, Zeeshan Feroz, stated:

"The biggest thing for me is rolling out access to faster payments for UK consumers (…) Over the next few weeks, we’ll be rolling that out for all customers. UK users will be able to deposit Sterling and withdraw Sterling out into their bank accounts using faster payments."

Binance Opens Its First Crypto-Fiat Exchange in Uganda

Yesterday, cryptocurrency exchange Binance announced it was starting a fiat-crypto trading pair with the Uganda Shilling. According to an official statement, the company also announced its first fiat-crypto exchange named Binance Uganda in which zero trading fees will be charged. The company stated:

"Binance is excited to announce our first fiat crypto exchange - Binance Uganda! Registrations for Binance Uganda will open from today, and the first 20,000 users to register on www.binance.co.ug will each be rewarded with 0.5 BNB. As appreciation for the ongoing support from our users, we will provide Binance Uganda users with a month of zero trading fees once trading comes online. The opening of trading will be announced at a later time."
