Market Update

At the time of writing, the Bitcoin price is sitting at $8,348 representing a loss of 2.54% in the last 24 hours. More than $450 M worth of BTC were exchanged in the BTC/USD market representing a 18.7% share of the global daily volume. The BTC/JPY pair represents a 53.6% share.

The Ethereum price has dropped 3.13% over the past 24 hours and is currently sitting at $694, with over $150 M worth of Ether exchanged in the past 24 hours on the ETH/USD pair which has a 21.7% market share of the daily trading volume.

Walmart Looks to Blockchain for Retail Product Resales

Last Thursday, the U.S Patent and Trademark Office has released a new patent application from the multinational retail corporation, Wallmart, that aims to implement a digital marketplace. The new patent outlines a blockchain ledger which would track items that stores sell to a particular customer. Afterwards, the system allows a customer to register the item after it's bought for the first time and set a price for resale. The company stated:

"By one approach, the transfer from the seller to the courier may require signatures from both the sender and the courier using their respective private keys (...) When the package is transferred from the courier to the buyer, the courier may use the courier's private key to authorize the transfer of the digital asset representing the physical asset from the courier to the buyer and update the delivery record with the new transaction."

LMAX Exchange to Launch Regulated Crypto Trading Platform

Yesterday, the multilateral trading firm based in London, LMAX exchange, has announced a new cryptocurrency exchange regulated by the UK's Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) for institutional investors, which will be called LMAX Digital. The reason behind this decision was the number of requests received from its clients who were interested in trading cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin, Ethereum and Litecoin. LMAX's Exchange CEO David Mercer stated:

"We are furthering the legitimisation of the crypto currency market by offering institutions a platform on which to acquire, trade and hold crypto currencies securely with high quality, deep liquidity."

Banco Masventas Is Now Using Bitcoin for Cross-Border Payments

Argentinian Banco Masventas has revealed a new service that allows customers to send cross-border payments using Bitcoin. Banco Masventas has partnered with the Latin America-focused exchange Bitex, which will provide this service as an alternative to Swift. The Bitex's CMO explained:

"The customers will ask the bank to do an international payment, and the bank uses Bitex as a provider. For the customer, it's transparent, they don't touch, they don't see the bitcoin. We are a provider for them, and they are not touching bitcoin."
