Market Update

At the time of writing, the Bitcoin price is sitting at $6,343 representing a gain of 0.62% in the last 24 hours. More than $240 M worth of BTC were exchanged in the BTC/USD market representing a 13% share of the global daily volume. The BTC/KRW pair represents a 29% share.

The Ethereum price has increased 1.06% over the past 24 hours and is currently sitting at $197, with over $50 M worth of Ether exchanged in the past 24 hours on the ETH/USD pair which has a 8% market share of the daily trading volume.

Circle, Coinbase, and ConsenSys Join Global Digital Finance (GDF)

Yesterday, Global Digital Finance (GDF), a not-for-profit industry body with the aim of "driving acceleration and adoption of digital finance", announced several leaders in the cryptocurrency sphere, including Circle and Coinbase as its founding members, and released its Taxonomy for cryptocurrencies, as well as its industry-led Code of Conduct. On their twitter they stated: 

"We’re excited to announce #cryptoasset global leaders @circlepay, @coinbase, @ConsenSys, @DLA_Piper, @DiginexGlobal, @HoganLovells and @inside_r3 as GDF Founding Members who will support developing our global strategy and growing our community. (…) "

Microsoft Partnering with Nasdaq to Implement Blockchain Technology

Last Tuesday, Global software giant Microsoft announced that the company is teaming up with Nasdaq Inc. to offer blockchain software solutions to traders and exchanges. Microsoft announced via press release that intends to integrate their Azure Blockchain technology with Nasdaq’s Financial Framework (NFF). The Senior Vice President and Head of Product Management for Nasdaq’a market tech sector, Magnus Haglind, stated:

“Our industry is evolving faster than ever with the advent and advancement of cloud, blockchain, machine intelligence and others. Key players in the industry are looking to these technologies to explore how they can become more effective and efficient, but also gain competitive advantage.”

Ethereum Startup ConsenSys Acquires Asteroid Mining Company

According to an official press release published yesterday, New York-based blockchain software technology startup and Ethereum development studio ConsenSys has acquired asteroid mining company Planetary Resources, Inc. through an asset-purchase agreement. Following the acquisition, Planetary Resources President and CEO Chris Lewicki and General Counsel Brian Israel will be joining the team at ConsenSys. Lewicki stated: 

“I am proud of our team’s extraordinary accomplishments, grateful to our visionary supporters, and delighted to join ConsenSys in building atop our work to expand humanity’s economic sphere of influence in the Solar System.”
