Market Update

At the time of writing, the Bitcoin price is sitting at $6,381 representing a gain of 0.59% in the last 24 hours. More than $200 M worth of BTC were exchanged in the BTC/USD market representing a 11% share of the global daily volume. The BTC/KRW pair represents a 36% share.

The Ethereum price has increased 0.78% over the past 24 hours and is currently sitting at $199, with over $30 M worth of Ether exchanged in the past 24 hours on the ETH/USD pair which has a 7% market share of the daily trading volume.

Tether Produces Letter Vouching for Dollar Deposits

Stablecoin issuer Tether Limited confirmed Thursday it was banking with Bahamas-based Deltec Bank and Trust Limited and published a letter purportedly from the institution as evidence of its reserves. The company, which issues the controversial tether (USDT) stable coin, has long been under fire over concerns that it does not have the fiat holdings to fully back the tokens in circulation. It had been rumoured for weeks to be working with Deltec but did not previously acknowledge the relationship. The issuer said in a blog post:

"The acceptance of Tether Limited as a client of Deltec came after their due diligence review of our company. This included, notably, an analysis of our compliance processes, policies and procedures; a full background check of the shareholders, ultimate beneficiaries and officers of our company; and assessments of our ability to maintain the USD-peg at any moment and our treasury management policies."

TRON (TRX) Founder and CEO Demonstrates His Support for Net Neutrality

Yesterday, Justin Sun, the founder and CEO of TRON Foundation, announced his support for net neutrality, and demonstrated this support with a $10,000 pledge to DonateForNetNeutrality.com, a crowdfunding effort by the non-profit organization "Fight for the Future", which was founded in 2011 with the mission of ensuring "that the web continues to hold freedom of expression and creativity at its core". On their twitter, Sun stated:

"I support #netneutrality along with @EvangelineLilly @tmorello @doctorow @bassnectar and millions of people seeking to protect the Internet’s core values. When the Internet is free and open, it fosters innovation that benefits not just a few, but all of us! @fightfortheftr"

Blockchain Tech Gives New Hope to Censored Activists and Journalists

Last Tuesday, according to a report from Portal do Bitcoin, Bitcoin Max, a Brazilian cryptocurrency exchange, has just regained access to its banking accounts after being shut down earlier this year. Without prior notice, Santander and Banco do Brasil cut off Bitcoin Max’s accounts, leaving Bitcoin Max with no banking relationships. Yesterday, Santander and Banco do Brasil re-opened Bitcoin Max’s accounts after prosecution threatened them with fines. Portal do Bitcoin stated:

"The Banco do Brasil and Santander reopened the accounts of the Exchange Bitcoin Max after the preliminary rulings granted by the Court of Justice of the Federal District and territories (TJDFT). The reason for compliance with the respective court orders is simple: avoid paying fines. (...)"
