Market Update

At the time of writing, the Bitcoin price is sitting at $6,343 representing a loss of 0.85% in the last 24 hours. More than $200 M worth of BTC were exchanged in the BTC/USD market representing a 16.3% share of the global daily volume. The BTC/JPY pair represents an 8.1% share.

The Ethereum price has dropped 0.88% over the past 24 hours and is currently sitting at $207, with over $45 M worth of Ether exchanged in the past 24 hours on the ETH/USD pair which has an 8.8% market share of the daily trading volume.

Accenture Launches New DLT-based Application to Manage Software Licenses

Yesterday, multinational professional services firm Accenture announced that it has conducted its first Distributed Ledger Technology (DLT) based transactions. According to the official press release, the company has developed an application which utilizes blockchain technology to provide enhanced enterprise software asset management capabilities and a proprietary smart contract language called DAML to model and enforce software license events throughout their lifecycle, from origination to purchase. Accenture Operations blockchain lead, Melanie Cutlan, explained:

"The power of DLT will simplify the traceability of these licenses, and, therefore, the auditing function so all can see where each license is assigned. This has the potential to save organizations millions of dollars per year in the management of their software license portfolios.”

Australia’s CSIRO, CommBank Complete ‘Smart Money’ Blockchain Trial

Recently, the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organization’s (CSIRO) Data61 division and the Commonwealth Bank of Australia (CommBank) announced a blockchain-based “programmable money” app, called "Making Money Smart", featuring smart contract technology that could improve the management of insurance payouts and budgeting. According to the announcement, the app was tested by 10 members of the country’s National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) and leading participants cut administration costs and remove paperwork. Australia's CSIRO stated:

"This could include more directly connecting citizens to public policy programs, empowering people to optimise their spending through things like smart savings plans and smart diets, and reducing costs for businesses, including through the potential for self-taxing transactions."

Singapore’s Central Bank, SGX Develop Blockchain Settlement System

Last Sunday, Singapore's Ministry of Communications and Information announced a settlement system for tokenized assets, developed by the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) and the country’s stock exchange, Singapore Exchange (SGX). The newly completed delivery versus payment (DvP) system utilizes smart contracts to simplify post-trade processes and shorten the settlement cycle, as explained by the project chairman and SGX’s head of technology, Tinku Gupta:

"Based on the unique methodology SGX developed to enable real-world interoperability of platforms, as well as the simultaneous exchange of digital tokens and securities, we have applied for our first-ever technology patent.”
