Market Update

At the time of writing, the Bitcoin price is sitting at $6,344 representing a loss of 0.06% in the last 24 hours. More than $200 M worth of BTC were exchanged in the BTC/USD market representing a 16.7% share of the global daily volume. The BTC/JPY pair represents a 7.1% share.

The Ethereum price has dropped 0.87% over the past 24 hours and is currently sitting at $206, with over $45 M worth of Ether exchanged in the past 24 hours on the ETH/USD pair which has a 9.4% market share of the daily trading volume.

G Suite's Official Twitter Account Was Hacked

Yesterday, the official and verified Twitter account for Google's G Suite was hacked, seeking to steal Twitter users out of their Bitcoin. During the afternoon, a tweet from the G Suite account shared information about the "biggest crypto-giveaway in the world," which followers could access by first sending over some Bitcoin of their own. The tweet was spotted by Twitter users who managed to grab screenshots of the post before it was deleted.

Crypto Exchange Lost $550,000 Due to AurumCoin 51% Attack

A cryptocurrency named AurumCoin (AU) claimed that it was hit by 51% attack, and crypto exchange Cryptopia, where the cryptocurrency is listed, lost 15,752.26 AU (approx. $550,000). However, the cryptocurrency has shifted the blame on Cryptopia. On AurumCoin’s website, the team claims that it is not responsible to anyone since it is an open-source distributed currency. Cryptopia, on the other hand, has not yet acknowledged any loss.

Petro Can Be Converted Into Any Cryptocurrency If Bought in 2018

The Venezuelan government has announced that its national cryptocurrency, El Petro, can be exchanged into any cryptocurrency if purchased this year. However, the wallet for El Petro is still not available and early buyers have been receiving certificates of purchase. The Venezuelan President, Nicolas Maduro, offered this new incentive for people to purchase his country’s national cryptocurrency during his visit to the headquarters of the Superintendency of Cryptoassets and Related Activities last week. El Nacional quoted him saying:

Anyone who buys El Petro [from now] until December 31 can convert it into any digital currency or international convertible currency, such as Bitcoin or Yuan."
