Market Update

At the time of writing, the Bitcoin price is sitting at $4,567 representing a loss of 1.56% in the last 24 hours. More than $520 M worth of BTC were exchanged in the BTC/USD market representing a 24.66% share of the global daily volume. The BTC/JPY pair represents a 9.75% share.

The Ethereum price has dropped 1.56% over the past 24 hours and is currently sitting at $135, with over $150 M worth of Ether exchanged in the past 24 hours on the ETH/USD pair which has a 13.43% market share of the daily trading volume.

Auditor Says The Circle’s Dollar-Tied Stablecoin is Fully Backed

Circle Internet Financial had just under $127.5 million backing the dollar-pegged USD Coin at the end of last month, enough to redeem every token at the time, according to Grant Thornton LLP, the U.S. branch of Grant Thornton International. While not a full audit, the report confirmed information provided by Circle chief financial officer Naeem Ishaq about the funds backing up the stablecoin now jointly issued by Circle and Coinbase through the CENTRE Consortium. The report went on to explain that:

“In making an assessment of the risks of material misstatement, we considered and obtained an understanding of internal control relevant to the preparation of, and the Reserve Account Information in, the accompanying Reserve Account Report in order to design procedures that are appropriate in the circumstances, but not for the purpose of expressing an opinion on the effectiveness of such internal control.”

Four ICOs Hit with Cease-and-Desists by Colorado Securities Regulator

The Colorado Division of Securities has issued another batch of cease-and-desist orders against allegedly fraudulent Initial Coin Offerings (ICOs). The watchdog announced on Tuesday that the U.S. state’s securities commissioner, Gerald Rome, has signed four new orders against Global Pay Net, Credits LLC, CrowdShare Mining and CyberSmart Coin Invest. Rome stated:

“The sheer number of orders entered against ICOs should be a red flag to all investors that there is a real risk that the ICO you are considering is a fraud. Our investigations show that there are fraudsters who will simply create a fake ICO to steal investors’ money, or spoof a legitimate ICO to trick investors into wrongfully paying them.”
