Market Update

At the time of writing, the Bitcoin price is sitting at $4,235 representing a gain of 5.66% in the last 24 hours. More than $610 M worth of BTC were exchanged in the BTC/USD market representing a 22% share of the global daily volume. The BTC/JPY pair represents a 7% share.

The Ethereum price has increased 5.31% over the past 24 hours and is currently sitting at $120, with over $150 M worth of Ether exchanged in the past 24 hours on the ETH/USD pair which has a 15% market share of the daily trading volume.

Huobi Launches Cryptocurrency Contract Trading Platform

Yesterday at the Cryptofrontiers conference in New York, Huobi exchange revealed that its cryptocurrency contract trading platform, Huobi Derivative Market (Huobi DM), is now in Beta testing phase. According to CryptoGlobe, the platform aims to give cryptocurrency traders in selected countries the ability to open long and short positions on bitcoin (BTC) and other cryptocurrencies at predetermined prices and specified times. Joshua Goodbody, the General Counsel of Huobi’s Global Institutional team, quoted: 

"As part of that maturation, we see more and more sophisticated investors and traders from more established financial markets looking to gain exposure, including institutional players. At the same time, we think many experienced, successful cryptocurrency traders are looking for a broader range of investment tools than has traditionally been available. Huobi DM is tailor-made to address these sorts of needs."

Blockchain Voting System Being Developed by South Korea

Yesterday, ZDNet reported that the South Korean Ministry of Science and ICT has plans to develop a blockchain-based voting system. The project is the result a collaboration between the National Election Commission (NEC) and the Ministry of Science and ICT, and will start trials next month in the private sector. ZDNet stated:

"The NEC ran an online voting system, dubbed K-voting, back in 2013, which has since been used by 5.64 million people but trust in the voting system remains low due to hacking and fraud concerns."

Bitstamp Partners With Irisium To Implement Market Monitoring Platform

Last Tuesday, Bitstamp exchange announced a partnership with market monitoring and analytics software provider Irisium, in order to implement a new technology that will keep tabs on market activity. The partnership will see Irisium’s “state of the art holistic monitoring technology” implemented on the Bitstamp exchange. Bitstamp twitted:
