Market Update

At the time of writing, the Bitcoin price is sitting at $6,587 representing a gain of 0.21% in the last 24 hours. More than $230 M worth of BTC were exchanged in the BTC/USD market representing a 22% share of the global daily volume. The BTC/JPY pair represents an 11% share.

The Ethereum price has dropped 0.63% over the past 24 hours and is currently sitting at $221, with over $80 M worth of Ether exchanged in the past 24 hours on the ETH/USD pair which has a 12% market share of the daily trading volume.

Bithumb to Launch Decentralized Exchange

Yesterday, according to Business Korea, cryptocurrency exchange Bithumb is set to launch its own decentralized exchange (DEX) by the end of October. The South Korea cryptocurrency exchange has partnered with OneRoot for the move, who will provide their Ethereum-based R1 transaction protocol for order matching and liquidity on the new DEX. Bithumb stated:

“Bithumb DEX will be operated by its overseas subsidiary. The company is working together with RNT only in the decentralized exchange sector.”

BlackBerry Unveils Blockchain Partnership

Recently, the software company and former maker of an eponymous line of mobile phones, BlackBerry, announced its plans for a new blockchain platform aimed at storing and sharing medical data. The firm said in a press release that it would use its "carrier-grade network operation center" (NOC) to support the digital ledger, which would be developed by biotech incubator ONEBIO. BlackBerry stated:

"Co-chaired by Shire, the leading global biotech focused on rare diseases, one of the Global Commission's technology pilots will explore how BlackBerry's new solution might provide real-time, actionable analysis as the Commission seeks to use technology to shorten the time to diagnosis."

Bitpay Phases Out Crypto-Debit Cards for European Cardholders

Recently, the global cryptocurrency payment service provider, Bitpay, has announced the company’s loadable cryptocurrency debit card services will no longer work for European customers later this month. The company has emailed all of its European card holding customers and revealed it is in the midst of sunsetting all Bitpay accounts related to the Wave Crest-issued Bitpay card. Bitpay stated:  

"We are now working to sunset Bitpay accounts related to the Wave Crest-issued Bitpay card — In 30 days, we will be turning off access to your Bitpay card dashboard. If you need to store your card’s transaction data for any purpose, please export your transaction data before your card dashboard access ends on Wednesday, October 31st, 2018."
