Market Update

At the time of writing, the Bitcoin price is sitting at $6,563 representing a loss of 0.21% in the last 24 hours. More than $230 M worth of BTC were exchanged in the BTC/USD market representing a 15% share of the global daily volume. The BTC/KRW pair represents a 14% share.

The Ethereum price has dropped 0.76% over the past 24 hours and is currently sitting at $207, with over $50 M worth of Ether exchanged in the past 24 hours on the ETH/USD pair which has a 10% market share of the daily trading volume.

Binance Using Software From Chainalysis to Fight Money Laundering

Yesterday, blockchain analysis software provider, Chainalysis, announced that it was going to use its compliance software suite to help crypto exchange Binance comply with anti-money laundering (AML) regulations around the globe. Chainalysis provides software solutions, namely "Chainalysis Reactor" and "Chainalysis KYT", used for investigation and compliance purposes by institutional clients, such as banks and crypto exchanges, as well as governmental bodies from around the world. Jonathan Levin, Co-Founder and COO of Chainalysis, stated:

“Cryptocurrency businesses of all sizes face the same core challenge: earning the trust of regulators, financial institutions and users. We expect many to follow Binance’s lead to build world-class AML compliance programs to satisfy regulators globally and build trust with major financial institutions.”

Coinfloor Becomes First Exchange To Get Gibraltar License

According to the Financial Times, the oldest Bitcoin exchange in the United Kingdom has recently become the first one to secure a license to operate in Gibraltar. Coinfloor is set to become formally regulated as part of the jurisdiction’s new blockchain-specific rules for fintech companies. Obi Nwosu, the CEO of Coinfloor, stated:

“What impressed us was that this [legislation] was in the works for a long time… It’s been well thought out, well considered. They are focusing in on quality over quantity.”

CME: Average Daily Volume for Bitcoin Futures Grew 41% in Q3

Yesterday, CME Group, which launched bitcoin futures trading in December of last year, posted on Twitter the results of the first 3 quarters of 2018 showing an average daily volume of 5,053 contracts in the third quarter, representing a 41 percent increase from 3,577 contracts in the second quarter. The figure also marks a 170 percent increase from the first quarter's 1,854 contracts. On the post, CME group stated: 

"In Q3, Bitcoin futures average daily volume rose 41% and open interest was up 19% over Q2 . Learn how market participants are using BTC to manage risk in changing markets."
