Market Update

At the time of writing, the Bitcoin price is sitting at $4,978 representing a gain of 5.69% in the last 24 hours. More than $600M worth of BTC were exchanged in the BTC/USD market representing a 15.7% share of the global daily volume. The pair with most volume was the BTC/USDT with a 69.5% share.

The Ethereum price has risen 11.42% over the past 24 hours and is currently sitting at $168, with over $250M worth of Ether exchanged in the past 24 hours on the ETH/USD pair which has a 7.7% market share of the daily trading volume. The largest ETH trading pair was the ETH/USDT with a 50.2% share.

Coinbase Confirms Extent of Crypto Insurance Coverage

Coinbase has revealed the details of its insurance arrangements for cryptocurrency held on customers’ behalf, a rare move in an opaque market.

In a blog post published Tuesday, Philip Martin the exchange’s vice president of security confirmed that it is covered for up to $255 million for coins held in so-called hot wallets – in other words, assets which are essentially online and open to potential hacks.

"The past 3 years have been an amazing opportunity to help build an industry-leading insurance program for a complex and emerging risk area. We currently hold a hot wallet policy with a $255 million limit placed by Lloyd’s registered broker Aon and sourced from a global group of US and UK insurance companies, including certain Lloyd’s of London syndicates."

TrueGBP Launched With 'Real-Time Confirmation of Reserves'

TrustToken, a San Francisco-based privately held firm that provides a platform to create asset-backed tokens, which can be actively traded on exchanges, has launched a new stablecoin, named TrueGBP. The newly announced TrueGBP is pegged 1:1 to the British pound (GBP). In an official blog post published yesterday, the company noted:

"The new British Pound-backed stablecoin, TrueGBP, is the first of several currencies TrustToken is planning to launch in the coming months to open up new opportunities for payments, international remittances, and foreign exchange."

Crypto Exchange Liquid Hits Unicorn Status - Over $1 Billion Valuation

According to a report published today by Cointelegraph Japan, Japanese crypto trading platform Liquid has hit unicorn status with the first close of an ongoing Series C funding that puts the company valuation at over $1 billion. Liquid’s parent company is Quoine, a global fintech company licensed by Japan’s Financial Services Agency. Katsuya Konno — representative director & head of Quoine’s CEO office — said that the new funding will be used to fuel global expansion, product development of the core trading exchange business and entrance into the security token market.
