At the time of writing, the Bitcoin price is sitting at $4,068 representing a gain of 0.52% in the last 24 hours. More than $248 M worth of BTC were exchanged in the BTC/USD market representing an 18.87% share of the global daily volume. The BTC/JPY pair represents a 12% share.

The Ethereum price has risen 1.23% over the past 24 hours and is currently sitting at $152, with over $98 M worth of Ether exchanged in the past 24 hours on the ETH/USD pair which has a 12.04% market share of the daily trading volume.

Ripple CEO to Critics After Obtaining 200 Clients: Banks Will Use XRP

Today, it was reported that 13 financial institutions have started to utilize the Ripple blockchain through RippleNet, bringing the total number of banks in the Ripple ecosystem to 200. JNFX head of emerging markets, Ashay Mervyn, stated that RippleNet is highly cost-effective when processing payments for international clients:

“Payments between countries are beset with inefficiencies—inefficiencies around cost, inefficiencies around speed and inefficiencies around transparency. RippleNet is specifically geared to address these problems. For our customers who range from the largest conglomerates in Africa (with operations and commitments in over 40 countries) to individuals in villages in rural Nigeria, our decision to join RippleNet and utilize their payment solution—including XRP for on-demand liquidity—just makes sense.”

Brave Announces Growth Stats: Surpasses 5.5 Million Monthly Active Users

Today, it was reported that Brave, the crypto-powered web browser, has surpassed 5.5 million monthly active users. With 1 million active users at the beginning of last year, Brave has seen phenomenal growth throughout 2018. The team expects the same growth to continue this year:

Ethereum Classic Losses Top $1 Million after 51% Attack: Coinbase Research

Yesterday, Coinbase engineers published updated data which indicates that the attackers successfully stole 219,500 ETC, the equivalent to roughly $1.1M. Coinbase has also ceased all interactions with the Ethereum Classic (ETC) blockchain after the attack. Crypto exchange Gate.io “will take all the loss for the users” and has already launched new security measures:

“Gate.io has raised the ETC confirmation number to 500 and launched a new strict 51% detect for enhanced protection. However, we suggest the ETC dev team and the community build a new consensus mechanism (PoS for example) to better protect ETC network from 51% attack.”
