Market Update

At the time of writing, the Bitcoin price is sitting at $3,580 representing a gain of  0.44% in the last 24 hours. More than $100M worth of BTC were exchanged in the BTC/USD market representing a 12.5% share of the global daily volume. The BTC/JPY pair represents an 8.75% share.

The Ethereum price has increased 0.16% over the past 24 hours and is currently sitting at $116, with over $40M worth of Ether exchanged in the past 24 hours on the ETH/USD pair which has an 7.9% market share of the daily trading volume.

Coinbase Integrates TurboTax to Help US Clients File Taxes

Coinbase customers who must file taxes in the U.S. this year can get assistance from TurboTax, the tax-filing software offered by Intuit Consumer Tax Group. The companies announced last Tuesday that they were teaming up to allow Coinbase and Coinbase Pro clients to upload their transactions, gains and losses in 2018 directly to TurboTax Premier, one of the tax firm’s products. Coinbase customers can upload as many as 100 transactions at once, according to a press statement from Coinbase. The integration will work directly through Coinbase’s retail platform, or its Android and iOS apps, the exchange said.

Jamaica Stock Exchange Plans to List Security Tokens

The Jamaica Stock Exchange (JSE) is planning to list security tokens as tradeable assets for its clients. The JSE’s Canadian technology partner Blockstation announced last week that the two firms have completed the first stage of a 60-day live cryptocurrency trading pilot. Marlene Street Forrest, the JSE’s managing director said the trial has been “very smooth” so far and that the exchange is “quite happy” with the results. She added:

“We are looking forward to moving to the next stage of the pilot which would eventually include the listing of security tokens.”

$41 Billion Flash Crash On Singapore’s Stock Market

Jardine Matheson shares listed on the Singapore Exchange (SGX) took a sudden 83% dive worth $41 billion on Thursday morning before making an equally quick recovery. The stunning movement, which took place in a matter of minutes, sparked a temporary market panic as stock market investors struggled to dump their stocks before an equally rapid recovery took place. At the end of it, about 167,500 shares had changed hands at discounts of up to 75% of the previous day’s closing price.
