Market Update

At the time of writing, the Bitcoin price is sitting at $3,384 representing a loss of 1.59% in the last 24 hours. More than $160M worth of BTC were exchanged in the BTC/USD market representing a 14% share of the global daily volume. The BTC/JPY pair represents a 10% share.

The Ethereum price has dropped 2.62% over the past 24 hours and is currently sitting at $103, with over $80M worth of Ether exchanged in the past 24 hours on the ETH/USD pair which has a 10% market share of the daily trading volume.

TRON's BitTorrent Tokens Sell Out in Minutes

Yesterday, the public sale of TRON's BitTorrent Token (BTT) on Binance Launchpad ended in less than 15 minutes, with 59.4 million tokens sold in under 15 minutes.

Binance's announced via blog post and also mentioned that the BitTorrent Token sale would "run in two simultaneous sessions: one for purchases using Binance Coin (BNB) and another for purchases using TRON (TRX)," with 23.76 billion BTT for sale in the former and 35.64 billion BTT for sale in the latter.

Well, the sale did start exactly at 15:00 UTC as scheduled. Per Binance's blog post on the sale results, the BitTorrent tokens on offer at both sessions sold out extremely quickly:

"In the BNB session, all 23.76 billion BTT were sold to token sale participants within 13 minutes and 25 seconds. In the TRON session, all 35.64 billion BTT were sold within 14 minutes and 41 seconds."

Cryptocurrency Exchange Liqui Shuts Down

Cryptocurrency exchange Liqui is shutting down, and users will have 30 days to withdraw their funds. This makes it the first cryptocurrency exchange to go down in 2019. Elaborating, Liqui’s media relations team wrote:

"Hence, we decided to close all accounts and stop providing our services. It broke our hearts to do that… You will be able to withdraw your Digital Assets through our website within 30 days after this message was sent."

Owner of Hacked Crypto Exchange BitGrail Sentenced to Return Funds

Francesco Firano, the owner and founder of hacked Italian cryptocurrency exchange BitGrail, has been sentenced to return as much of the assets to his customers as possible. Bits of the court decision were released by the Bit Grail Victims Group (BGVG) on a Medium blog post on Jan. 28. The Italian Bankruptcy Court published the sentence on Jan. 21.

A post by the BGVG published the same day as the court sentence explains that “the court concluded that both Bitgrail and Mr. Firano, personally, be declared bankrupt, authorizing seizures of many of Mr. Firano’s personal assets.” According to the post the Italian authorities already seized over $1 million in personal Firano’s assets, including his car.
