Market Update

At the time of writing, the Bitcoin price is sitting at $7,940 representing a loss of 0.05% in the last 24 hours. More than 3200M worth of BTC were exchanged in the BTC/USD market representing a 9.6% share of the global daily volume. The pair with most volume was the BTC/USDT with a 76% share.

The Ethereum price has risen 1.83% over the past 24 hours and is currently sitting at $257.4, with over $160M worth of Ether exchanged in the past 24 hours on the ETH/USD pair which has a 7% market share of the daily trading volume. The largest ETH trading pair was the ETH/USDT with a 50% share.

Coinbase Commerce Now Lets Merchants Accept USD Coin (USDC)

Coinbase announced that "Coinbase Commerce", which provides non-custodial cryptocurrency payment solutions, now allows businesses to accept fully dollar-collateralized stablecoin USDC. In a blog post published on Monday, the company said that Coinbase Commerce has added support for stablecoin USDC, thereby allowing "businesses to accept payments online in the same way they’re able to accept cash in-store." The blog post reads:

"Coinbase Commerce doesn’t charge any fees to process payments. Coinbase Commerce accounts are completely separate from Coinbase accounts. You can use the withdraw functionality to send cryptocurrency to an address associated with your Coinbase account."

Craig Wright Attempts to Copyright the Bitcoin White Paper

Craig Wright, the self-proclaimed creator of Bitcoin, has filed registrations with the U.S. Copyright Office supporting his claims of authorship over the original Bitcoin code and the Satoshi white paper. The registrations pertain specifically to “Bitcoin: A Peer-to-Peer Electronic Cash System” and “Bitcoin,” meaning the original 2009 code.

The registration does not imply ownership nor is this an official patent. The copyright process allows anyone to register anything in an effort to prepare, say, for lawsuits associated with ownership.

Firefox Quantum Offers Anti-Cryptojacking Feature

Firefox Quantum, the latest version of open-source internet browser Firefox, has a new privacy toggle that protects against crypto jacking, according to a blog post by Mozilla published yesterday. Mozilla previously warned in an official blog post that websites can deploy scripts that launch a crypto miner on a user’s machine without them being aware — a practice known as crypto jacking.

To combat these exploitative practices, Mozilla partnered with online privacy company Disconnect to create a crypto mining blocker for their browser. Users can now toggle an opt-in feature, that purportedly blocks would-be crypto jackers from taking advantage of spare computing power to mine cryptocurrencies.
