Coinbase Card Expands Across Europe, Adds Support for Five More Cryptoassets

 

Coinbase has revealed its “Coinbase Card,” a cryptocurrency debit card that can be used wherever Visa is accepted, now supports five more cryptoassets: XRP, XLM, BAT, 0x, and REP. Along with the added support came an expansion to 10 additional countries.

The Coinbase Card lets users pay with their crypto balances on their Coinbase accounts, and was launched back in April in the UK. It soon expanded to six more European countries: Spain, Germany, Ireland, the Netherlands, France, and Italy.

Now, it supports nine different cryptoasset and is also available in Bulgaria, Croatia, Denmark, Hungary, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, Poland, Romania, and Sweden.

DeFi Startup Compound Raises $25 Million in Round Led by a16z

 

Decentralized finance startup Compound, which lets users earn interest on their cryptocurrency holdings or take collateralized loans with ETH-backed tokens, has raised $25 million in a Series A funding round led by Andreessen Horowitz’s a16z crypto fund.

This made Compound’s Series A one of the largest venture capital investments into the decentralized finance space to date. Data from DeFi Pulse shows the startup has around $101 million worth of cryptocurrency locked in its protocol, with over 0.3% of ETH’s total supply being locked in it.

Unknown Fund Pledges to Donate $75 Million in Bitcoin to Support Idea of Anonymity

 

An anonymous organization going by the name Unknown Fund has pledged to donate a total of $75 million in cryptocurrency for the development of ideas related to anonymity, with preference given to niches related to protection of personal data, cryptocurrency, and blockchain technology.

Its announcement clarified its organizers are “anonymous people from different countries who met on the 4chan English-language imageboard.” The Unknown Fund’s goal is partly related to the current use of personal data, which has “become a powerful tool for manipulating people.”

Crypto philanthropy is nothing new. Last year an anonymous donor going by “Pine” set up the Pineapple Fund, which donated a total of $55 million to over 50 charities. The fund’s website stated its “play-money” became a treasure chest, and he was past the “satiety point of money.”
