Bakkt Announces Launch of Cash-Settled Bitcoin Futures on December 9

The parent company of the New York Stock Exchange, the Intercontinental Exchange (ICE), has announced its cryptocurrency venture Bakkt is going to offer cash-settled bitcoin futures to its clients, starting December 9.

The cash-settled bitcoin futures are going to be offered via ICE’s Singapore unit, which will list the Bakkt Bitcoin (USD) Cash Settled Monthly Futures contract. ICE Clear Singapore will clear the contracts. Both are regulated by the Monetary Authority of Singapore.

The president and COO of ICE Futures and Clear Singapore Lucas Schmeddes said in the announcement:

“Our new cash settled futures contract will offer investors in Asia and around the world a convenient, capital efficient way to gain or hedge exposure in bitcoin markets.”

Bitcoin Is Trading at a $500 Premium in South Africa Over Bank Account Closures

Bitcoin is currently trading at a $500 premium in South Africa as one of the country’s largest banks, FirstRand, started informing clients it was going to shut down accounts related to cryptocurrencies after “considering its risk appetite in respect of virtual currencies.”

All affected cryptocurrency exchanges, including Luno, AltCoinTrader, VALR, and ICE3X, revealed they have other banking relationships and don’t expect the move to affect their customers. Nevertheless, VALR and AltCoinTrader’s orderbooks show BTC is trading at close to 120,000 South African rand per coin, the equivalent of around $8,170.

CryptoCompare data shows that on other exchanges throughout the world bitcoin is changing hands at around $7,565 at the time of writing.

Cryptocurrency Miner Manufacturer Canaan Raises $90 Million With Its U.S. IPO

Canaan Creative, a popular cryptocurrency miner manufacturer that’s behind the Avalon Miner series, has raised $90 million selling 10 million American depository shares at $9 each. Its first day of trading saw its shares hit a $12.5 high before dropping to $8.6.

Canaan is now trading on the Nasdaq under the CAN ticker. IT was the first cryptocurrency miner manufacturer to manage to go public, as both it and its rivals saw other IPO attempts get rejected in the past.
