BTC/USD pushed higher throughout yesterday afternoon (UTC) and into the late evening. Having peaked at $10,450 at roughly 10:15pm, the trading pair was then sold down to as low as $10,275 at roughly 5:30am this morning. Importantly, BTC/USD has continued to remain north of $10,000 after having fallen below the psychologically significant level early Wednesday morning.

At the time of writing, bitcoin (BTC) is trading at $10,323.2 (+2.43%) with a daily trusted volume of $1.20 bn. As for ether (ETH) it is trading at $179.4 (+1.31%) with a daily trusted volume of $151.61 mn. The MVIS CryptoCompare Digital Assets 10 Index is currently tracking at 3,193.92 (+0.15%).

France Will Not Tax Cryptocurrency-to-Cryptocurrency Trades

 

French minister of the economy and finance Bruno Le Maire has stated that cryptocurrency-to-cryptocurrency trades will not be taxed. The European nation will instead only tax cryptocurrency gains after they have been converted into fiat currencies.

“We believe that the moment the gains are converted into traditional money is the right time to assess tax,” said Le Maire in a Bloomberg Tax report.

France’s policy decision to exempt cryptocurrency-to-cryptocurrency trading from tax comes roughly two weeks since reports emerged that Portugal’s tax authority determined cryptocurrency trading and payments are tax-exempt.

CryptoKitties Creator Dapper Labs Announces New Blockchain, $11 Million Investment Round

 

Dapper Labs—the Vancouver-headquartered company behind CryptoKitties and upcoming projects such as NBA Top Shot—announced Thursday that it is developing Flow, a new blockchain that is designed to “enable decentralized applications at scale.”

It also announced an $11 million financing round led by Andreessen Horowitz’s crypto fund and existing investors such as Union Square Ventures, Venrock, Digital Currency Group, and CoinFund. What’s more, Dapper Labs announced new partnerships with leading entertainment publishers such as Warner Music Group—who also participated in the $11 million round—and Ubisoft.

With this latest fundraising, Dapper Labs has now received over $40 million in financing. Earlier backers who did not participate in its latest investment round include Google parent Alphabet’s venture arm GV and various founders of Dreamworks, Reddit, Coinbase, Zynga, and AngelList.

Premier League’s Watford FC Adds BTC Logo to Player Uniforms

 

Premier League football club Watford FC announced Thursday that the Bitcoin logo (i.e., ₿) will appear on its players’ shirt sleeve this season. “The logo is part of a wider campaign to improve awareness around Bitcoin and educate the public on the benefits of using cryptocurrencies,” a blog post by Watford FC stated.

Making the sponsorship possible is Watford FC’s primary shirt sponsor and popular bitcoin betting site Sportsbet.io. However, it will not be paying for the sponsorship on its own. According to the blog post, “the sponsorship will be crowd-funded, allowing anyone who holds [b]itcoin the exclusive opportunity to share in the perks granted to Watford FC.”
