After the heavy selling that BTC/USD endured in the early hours of Thursday (UTC)—pushing the pair as low as $9,650—buyers were able to move the price back over $10,000; a scenario that has transpired several times in recent months. BTC/USD actually rallied north of $10,300 late last night, before retracing.

At the time of writing, bitcoin (BTC) is trading at $10,192.1 (+3.02%) with a daily trusted volume of $1.45 bn. As for ether (ETH) it is trading at $217.5 (+5.28%) with a daily trusted volume of $659.52 mn. The MVIS CryptoCompare Digital Assets 10 Index is currently tracking at 3,505.25 (–0.97%).

CryptoCompare Releases August 2019 Exchange Review

 

CryptoCompare released on Thursday its August 2019 Exchange Review, providing analysis of key developments in the cryptoasset exchange-traded market.

Of particular note, the Review showed that exchanges volumes from grades AA through E—according to the CryptoCompare Benchmark—all saw month-on-month declines in August, with top-tier volumes seeing the largest decline. Interestingly, top-tier exchanges such as Coinbase and Binance still managed to see solid monthly gains in web traffic during August. 

August’s edition of the Review includes a new spotlight on stablecoins (pages 27–29) as well as an expanded section focusing on derivatives (pages 21–26).

Coinbase Considering 17 New Cryptoasset Listings

 

Coinbase announced in a blog post Thursday that it is “exploring” the addition of a range of the following 17 new cryptoassets: Avalanche, Celo, Chia, Coda, Dfinity, Filecoin, Handshake, Kadena, Mobilecoin, NEAR, Nervos, Oasis, Orchid, Polkadot, Solana, Spacemesh, and Telegram.

Notably, a large number of these projects’ solutions—to which the underlying cryptoasset is native—are yet to publicly launch. Coinbase made a point of stating in its blog post that its “decision to support any asset requires significant technical and compliance review and may be subject to regulatory approval in some jurisdictions.”

Square Crypto Poaches Trio of Software Engineers from Facebook’s Calibra, Google, and Lightning Labs

 

Square Crypto—the division of payments solutions provider Square that is focused on open-source Bitcoin development—announced the hiring of three software engineers, each of whom will work on (an) open-source project(s) aimed at furthering the Bitcoin ecosystem.

Among the trio hired is Arik Sosman, a former software engineer at leading institutional cryptoasset financial services company BitGo and Facebook subsidiary Calibra. Also joining Square Crypto are Lightning Labs alum Valentine Wallace and Jeffrey Czyz, who has parted with Google after ten years working as a software engineer.

Twitter and Square chief executive Jack Dorsey introduced Square Crypto in March. Months later in June, Square Crypto announced its first hire: Steve Lee, a former product director at Google.
