Kraken Security Labs has warned the cryptocurrency community that Trezor’s hardware wallets can be compromised in 15 minutes if hackers have physical access to them. To fix the problem Trezor would have to change the hardware it uses on its devices.

Ethereum miners have been hoarding ETH since November, showing confidence that the cryptocurrency’s price is going to increase in the near future and avoiding adding bearish pressure to it.

Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey has tweeted out a new bitcoin emoji that appears next to the “BTC” or “Bitcoin” hashtags when these are sent out using Twitter’s iOS and Android apps. He tagged the Unicode Consortium in the tweet, presumably for it consider adding a character representing Bitcoin.

Trezor’s Hardware Wallets Can be Compromised in 15 Minutes, Kraken Warns

Kraken Security Labs has identified a critical security flaw in Trezor’s cryptocurrency hardware wallets, which allows hackers to get the cryptocurrency stored in them with just 15 minutes of physical access to the wallet.

In a blog post, Kraken Security Labs detailed that it had hacked the Trezor One and Model T wallets and extracted the seeds from the wallets through a voltage glitching exploit. From there, the team managed to use a typical brute force method to figure out the PIN number. The post reads:

“This initial research required some know-how and several hundred dollars of equipment, but we estimate that we (or criminals) could mass produce a consumer-friendly glitching device that could be sold for about $75.”

Kraken added that the attack takes “advantage of inherent flaws within the microcontroller used in the Trezor wallets” and that as such it’s hard for the company to do anything about the vulnerability without changing the hardware.

Users have been advised to not allow anyone to have physical access to their wallets and to enable their BIP39 passphrase. Kraken has late last year performed a similar attack on KeepKey’s hardware wallet.

Ethereum Miners Hoard ETH, Showing Confidence in the Project

Ethereum miners have been hoarding the ether tokens they’ve been earning, showing high confidence in the project. According to CoinDesk, citing data from crypto market platform Santiment, ether tokens held by Ethereum mining pool are close to an all-time high of 1.68 million ETH.

Miners have, according to the data, been accumulating since November. The cumulative balance of all ETH mining pools has risen by 11% from 1.52 million a year ago, the report says. Santiment’s founder Maksim Balashevich wrote in a monthly Substack newsletter:

"The steady accumulation suggests high confidence levels in the project among the majority block creators, at the very least relative to the current market conditions."

Some have argued that as the market sentiment seems to have turned bullish miners are accumulating their ether to sell at better prices in the near future.

Twitter Has Introduced a Bitcoin Emoji and Suggested Unicode Does the Same

Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey has sent out a tweet over the weekend to demonstrate the microblogging platform now displays a bitcoin symbol next to the “BTC” or “Bitcoin” hashtags when these are used using Twitter’s official iOS or Android apps.

In his tweet, Dorsey tagged the Unicode Consortium, a non-profit organization based in Mountain View, California that aims to “maintain and publish the Unicode Standard which was developed with the intention of replacing existing character encoding schemes which are limited in size and scope, and are incompatible with multilingual environments.”

In response to Dorsey’s tweet various members of the cryptocurrency community starting using the hashtag to both show support and try to make it become a “trending” hashtag on Twitter to raise awareness.

Buy Bitcoin + 14 other cryptoassets with eToro

Cryptoassets have become extremely popular over recent years as traditional assets suffer from the ongoing volatility caused by political uncertainty.

eToro has been building its platform community of online traders for more than a decade, first through stocks and traditional currencies, and then later through crypto.

Why trade crypto on eToro

There are no over 2,000 cryptocurrencies (a type of cryptoasset) in existence, although not all of them are frequently traded or available via the eToro platform. With so many to choose from, it is difficult to know which is the best to invest in.

In reality, there is unlikely to be just one perfect crypto. Making the right decision depends on why it is valuable. If you can pinpoint that, then it could well be worth a go.

How to trade crypto

Before making a trade, make sure you have a good idea as to what is driving that particular coin, how much you are willing to invest, and work out a timeline of how long you should hold it.

To get started you will need an account on a platform such as eToro, which will facilitate the trades you choose to make as you go through. You aren’t just limited to crypto either, you can also invest in other assets offered by eToro.

Disclaimer

Cryptoassets are highly volatile unregulated investment product. No EU investor protection. Your capital is at risk.
