The CENTRE Consortium, which issues the USDC stablecoin on Ethereum, has blacklisted an address in response to a request from law enforcement.

Ethereum miners generated record revenue from transaction fees last month, as Ponzi schemes and the yield farming trend are seeing users spend more ether on gas than ever before.

Kraken Security Labs, the cybersecurity division of the popular crypto exchange Kraken, has found vulnerabilities in the hardware wallet Ledger Nano X. Ledger claims the latest firmware updates addressed these vulnerabilities.

CENTRE Blacklists USDC Address in Response to Law Enforcement Request

The CENTRE Consortium, which issues the dollar-pegged stablecoin USDC on the Ethereum blockchain, has blacklisted a USDC address in response to a law enforcement request. The address had $100,000 worth of USDC in it.

The move was confirmed through Circle spokesperson Josh Hawkins, who said he could not provide any specifics about the blacklisting, which seems to have occurred in mid-June. A company statement shared by CoinDesk reads:

“Centre can confirm it blacklisted an address in response to a request from law enforcement. While we cannot comment on the specifics of law enforcement requests, Centre complies with binding court orders that have appropriate jurisdiction over the organization.”

On popular Ethereum blockchain explorer Etherscan, it’s possible to see the transaction in which CENTRE called the “blacklist(address investor)” function, freezing all USDC in it. Who owns the address isn’t clear. IT appears this was not the first time an address was blacklisted, and only CENTRE can blacklist addresses, not individual users.

Ethereum Miners Generated Record Revenue From Transaction Fees Last Month

Ethereum miners have seen their revenue from transaction fees go up in June to hit a new all-time high of nearly 17% of the total revenue generated, up from 10% in May.

Cryptocurrency miners generate most of their revenues through block subsidy rewards and transaction fees. The increase in fees on Ethereum was likely fuelled by Ethereum-based Ponzi and marketing schemes that have become some of the network’s biggest spenders, and by the yield farming trend.

Yield farming sees users interact with decentralized protocols more and more, paying transaction fees along the way with each interaction.  In comparison, bitcoin transaction fees as a share of miner revenue saw a 10% decline in May to hit 4% of total revenue in June.

Average BTC fees per transaction, it’s worth noting, decreased on said period.

Kraken Finds Potential Ledger Nano X Vulnerabilities

Kraken Security Labs, the cybersecurity division of the popular crypto exchange Kraken, has found vulnerabilities in the hardware wallet Ledger Nano X. Kraken’s security team announced it detected two potential attacks against the Ledger Nano X that, if conducted successfully, could the wallet’s security at risk.

The attacks could see bad actors get access to the victims’ computers connected to the wallets, and with it install malware capable of stealing the victim’s cryptocurrency. The attacks, dubbed Bad Ledger and Blind Ledger, need the attacker to first tamper the Ledger Nano X before it reaches the victim.

The issue leading to the vulnerability has reportedly been repaired, however, as Ledger issued a security bulletin in response to Kraken’s findings, confirming the vulnerabilities and indicating the latest firmware updates protect wallet holders against these attacks.
