SEC Approves New Bitcoin Futures ETF

The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission has approved the issuance of a bitcoin futures exchange-traded fund (ETF) by NYSE Arca and Teucrium.

Tucrium and NYSE Arca filed their ETF application under the Securities Exchange Act of 1934, through a form 19b-4. Other already-approved bitcoin futures ETFs filed by other companies were under the Investment Company Act of 1940, which follows a different regulatory pathway to approval.

An approval under the Securities Act of 1933 may potentially open the door for a spot bitcoin ETF, analysts say. The SEC has so far denied all spot bitcoin ETF applications, citing concerns surrounding market manipulation and the lack of a surveillance sharing agreement.

VanEck, Valkyrie, and ProShares are among the companies that have been approved to list and trade bitcoin futures ETFs in the U.S.

Goldman Sachs to Offer OTC Ethereum Options

Wall Street banking giant Goldman Sachs is set to offer over-the-counter Ethereum (ETH) options trading to its list of cryptocurrency product offerings.

According to Goldman’s Head of Crypto Trading Andrei Kazantsev, the decision to add over-the-counter Ethereum options comes amid growing interest from clients. Kazantsev noted the bank plans to launch cash-settled Ethereum options “in due course.”

The move comes after Goldman Sachs weighed OTC bilateral crypto options to allow hedge funds and BTC miners to boost their yield through them.  The banking giant’s clients can already access ETH derivatives through Galaxy Digital Holdings’ Institutional Ethereum Fund.

Last month, Goldman made its first-ever OTC crypto transaction when it traded a bitcoin on-deliverable option with Galaxy Digital.

Crypto Market Integrity Coalition Members Increase to 30

Thirteen major cryptocurrency industry players have joined the Crypto Market Integrity Coalition (CMIC), an industry-led organization trying to prevent market manipulation and signal to regulators the market is safe for investors.

The new signatories include crypto analytics firm Chainalysis, TRM, and Elliptic, as well as popular crypto exchanges like Gemini, Robinhood Markets, and Bitpanda.

The total number of signatories has now risen to 30, with the new members joining CMIC’s 17 original members, which include CryptoCompare, Coinbase, Circle, and Bitstamp.

To join the CMIC, signatories must sign a pledge and publicly commit to ensuring market integrity and efficiency while prevent market abuses like fraud and manipulation. CMIC is a proto-self regulatory organization (SRO).
