Solana Suffers Another Major Outage

The Solana network suffered an outage that stopped it from processing transactions on Friday night over a misconfigured node. The network ended up being restated to resolve the issue.

This isn’t the blockchain’s first major outage. So far this year, Solana has dealt with a number of multiple outages and degraded performance issues. In September 2021, Solana went offline for 17 hours.

According to Stakewiz, a Solana validator operator, the network’s latest outage appears to have been caused by a validator apparently running a duplicate instance, with both instances producing a block.

This led to an “obscure code path where validators were unable to switch back to the heaviest (main) fork. Validators were ‘stuck’ on the wrong fork and unable to get to the winning one.”

Meta Rolls Out NFT Sharing on Instagram and Facebook to US Users

Meta is rolling out to all Facebook and Instagram users in the U.S. the ability to connect their digital wallets and share non-fungible tokens (NFTs). NFT support will also be available to all users on Instagram in 100 countries.

Facebook and Instagram’s parent company has been gradually rolling out its NFT features over the last few months. It added early NFT support to Instagram in May, before introducing it to Facebook in June.

The company started allowing NFTs to be cross-posted between Instagram and Facebook in August. The feature was only available to select users, but is now starting to be rolled out to Facebook’s 2.9 billion users and Instagram’s 1.4 billion users.

Meta supports NFTs on Ethereum, Polygon, and the Flow blockchain. It plans to add support for Solana in the future.

Coinbase Suffers Technical Problem Halting Withdrawals involving US Bank Accounts

Nasdaq-listed cryptocurrency exchange Coinbase has suffered a technical problem that caused it to temporarily halt payments and withdrawals involving US bank accounts.

The exchange revealed over the weekend that for unspecified technical reasons it was “unable to take payments or make withdrawals involving US bank accounts” and added its team was aware of the issue and working on resolving it.

Coinbase revealed the issue had been resolved hours later, without detailing what caused the temporary payments to halt. During the outage, users were able to buy crypto with a debit card or with their PayPal accounts.

Digital Asset Investment Products’ AUM Fell 12.7% in September

The total assets under management (AUM) across all digital asset investment products fell 12.7% in September to $22.5 billion, making the fifth double-digit monthly decline this year, with a 48.6% drop from the beginning of the year.

The AUM of Bitcoin-based digital asset products fell 10.7% to $15.6 billion, while the AUM of Ethereum-based digital asset products fell 19.3% to $5.49 billion, now accounting for 24.5% of total AUM, opposed to Bitcoin’s 69.4% market share.
