Market Update

At the time of writing, the Bitcoin price is sitting at $6,571 representing a loss of 0.32% in the last 24 hours. More than $260 M worth of BTC were exchanged in the BTC/USD market representing a 23% share of the global daily volume. The BTC/JPY pair represents an 11% share.

The Ethereum price has increased 0.03% over the past 24 hours and is currently sitting at $229, with over $80 M worth of Ether exchanged in the past 24 hours on the ETH/USD pair which has a 12% market share of the daily trading volume.

Ripple’s xRapid Goes Live

Yesterday, Ripple announced, at its annual "Swell by Ripple" conference, in San Francisco, that its XRP-based product, xRapid, has officially been launched, and three firms have already signed production contracts. Ripple says that multiple customers, including Mercury FX, Cuallix, and Catalyst Corporate Federal Credit Union, will finally be able to use xRapid in their production environments for key remittance corridors. On Twitter, the CEO of Ripple, Brad Garlinghouse, stated:

"Truly a record year here at @Ripple - our network reaches across 40 countries and six continents, and now today we have commercial deployment of xRapid. The proof is in the pudding!"

Russian Nuclear Agency to Develop Blockchain as Part of Technology Adoption Framework

Yesterday, according to a press release signed by Evgeniy Abakumov, Head of Rosatom's IT Department, Russia’s state-owned nuclear energy corporation announced that it is fully engaged in developing “4.0 technologies” including blockchain technology. According to Abakumov, Rosatom will focus on three main areas of development within its drive to adopt new technologies, namely blockchain technology, artificial intelligence (AI) and Internet of Things (IoT). Evgeniy Abakumov stated:

"We are committed to integrating 4.0 technologies on a wider scale. IoT, AI, blockchain and others are to increase the efficiency of manufacturing process."

Ethereum Startup Parity Adds Casper Code to Custom Blockchain Toolbox

Yesterday, according to a release on GitHub, Parity Technologies has added an early version of Ethereum's highly anticipated Casper code change to its blockchain development platform, Substrate. The code contains a mechanism to transition to the "Shasper" upgrade, that combines the platform's in-house scaling solution, sharding, alongside its proof-of-stake consensus switch, Casper. Wei Tang, the developer leading the Parity integration stated:

"On one hand, we show that Substrate is a general framework that works for many different blockchains. On the other hand, we can hopefully provide more inputs for the Shasper specification, and speed up its development."
