Market Update

At the time of writing, the Bitcoin price is sitting at $6,313 representing a loss of 2.08% in the last 24 hours. More than $340 M worth of BTC were exchanged in the BTC/USD market representing a 17% share of the global daily volume. The BTC/KRW pair represents a 25% share.

The Ethereum price has dropped 3.73% over the past 24 hours and is currently sitting at $196, with over $80 M worth of Ether exchanged in the past 24 hours on the ETH/USD pair which has a 12% market share of the daily trading volume.

Russian Financial Watchdog Calls for Global Crypto Exchange Regulations

Yesterday, local media sources have reported that Russia’s Financial Monitor Service (FMS) is seeking the intervention of a global financial watchdog to regulate cryptocurrencies. The Russian financial regulatory agency allegedly contacted the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) to request an intergovernmental initiative that could control the supply and flow of cryptocurrencies. Pavel Livadny, the Deputy Director of FMS, confirmed that they are endeavouring to secure the participation of all the FATF member countries to design a unified legal parameter for the thriving industry, citing money laundering as the primary concern. Livadny stated to the local media Izvestia:

"All FATF member countries must change the legislation and introduce licensing, registration or registration of cryptoactive exchangers, ICO sites and cryptographic administrators, also monitor their activities and standards for anti-money laundering."

Alrosa Joins Pilot Program for Blockchain-Powered Diamond Traceability Platform ‘Tracer’

Yesterday, Russian-based Alrosa, one of the world's largest rough diamond miner, announced that it had joined the pilot program for "Tracr", the blockchain-powered end-to-end diamond traceability platform being developed by rival De Beers Group "in collaboration with industry stakeholders". Sergey Ivanov, the CEO of Alrosa, stated:

“Traceability is the key to further development of our market. It helps to ensure consumer confidence and fill information gaps, enabling people to enjoy the product without any doubts about ethical issues or undisclosed synthetics. Alrosa is glad to participate in testing Tracr, along with other market solutions. We believe tracing requires industry cooperation and complementation for the sake of a common goal.”

Singapore Power (SP) Group Introduces Blockchain-Powered Solar Energy Marketplace

Yesterday, SP Group, one of the largest corporations in Singapore focused on providing electricity and gas transmission, announced the launch of a blockchain-based renewable energy certificate (REC) marketplace. SP Group introduced the REC platform during the ASEAN Energy Business Forum currently being held in Singapore. Samuel Tan, the chief digital officer at the SP Group, stated: 

"Through blockchain technology, we enable companies to trade in renewable energy certificates conveniently, seamlessly and securely, helping them achieve greener business operations and meet their sustainability targets."
