Yes! You can basically do anything with Bitcoin these days, buy a house, pay your electricity bill, and as the title suggests, you can even book a hotel room pretty much anywhere in the world and pay for it with your coins. It’s a brave new world!
Expedia, an American travel company, accepts Bitcoin when paying for hotel rooms (not flights, though). The payments are powered by Coinbase and the process is pretty straight forward. Nevertheless, we’re going to give you a run through.
If you don’t have any Bitcoin, you can buy some on Coinbase.
Part 1 - Booking a room
Step 1: Click here to go to Expedia Travel
Step 2: Click “Hotels”
Step 3: Choose your destination
Step 4: Enter your check-in and check-out dates
Step 5: Choose the number of people that are staying
Step 6: Click “Search” (If you want to get a car as well, you can’t pay with Bitcoin)
Step 7: Choose a place you like and click the title of the listing to see more details and to choose a room
In this page you can see the ratings given to the hotel by guests and TripAdvisor, you can see more details about the area and you can also see more pictures.
Step 8: Scroll down and confirm your booking information
Step 9: Click “Update”
Step 10: Choose the room you want to stay in and click “Reserve”
Part 2 - Paying with Bitcoin
Step 1: Enter your personal info
Step 2: Choose “Bitcoin” as the payment method
Step 3: Enter your email address to receive the confirmation email
The next step is completely option and the rest of the guide does not require you to register an account if you don’t want to. However, when registering an account you can earn Expedia points which can give you discounts for future purchases.
Step 4 (Optional): Choose a password and confirm it
Step 5 (Optional): Tick the box to confirm you want an account with Expedia
Step 6: Now click "Pay with Bitcoin"
You'll be redirected to Coinbase
Step 7: Now, send the Bitcoin to the address shown
You have now made your Bitcoin payment. Follow the instructions provided by Expedia to confirm any required information.
