"FPGAs are designed to consume less power than other integrated circuits, making mining a very profitable venture, especially in countries such as Sweden where electricity prices are lower. In addition to low power consumption, higher levels of customization when compared to commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) hardware mean FPGAs can be configured to compute different algorithms specific to different cryptocurrencies, thereby allowing miners to switch from mining one type of currency to mining a different type, depending on profitability ratios, with very little downtime."

Imperium R2 is a multi-algorithm mining equipment sold by FPGA Guide. The miner has three FPGA hashing boards with six Kintex-7 K355T FPGA chips on each board. Imperium R2 has a maximum load up to 1350W. Bitstream takes only up to 10 seconds to upload which is much faster than the previous Imperium V series. This FPGA mining board looks similar to ASIC and has a similar interface with ASIC miner.
Board temperature can be monitored instantly by the host board with the onboard sensor. Fan cooling is supported. Power indicator LED, FPGA configured LED, and Mining status LEDs are available onboard.
